Auckland International Airport Departure Fee

Self-service terminals were initially installed to speed the departure process at Auckland International Airport.

Departure fee selection

The Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) provided Departure fee processing to Auckland International Airport and contracted Phosphor Essence to develop a self service kiosk to handle departure fees. Queues at the Airport BNZ can be long at peak times, and many travelers are only purchasing a departure fee. The network of kiosks frees up tellers to handle currency exchange and other types of transactions. Over 1000 travelers a week chose to use a kiosk rather than wait in line. These kiosks have recently been installed in Christchurch now that departure fees are included in tickets at Auckland.

Unattended Operation

Phosphor developed a full self service kiosk, certified for unattended operation. We kept the user interface really simple to keep it fast for travelers:

Swipe your card
Take the printout

These can be placed anywhere there is a network connection, they require no attendant, and have been certified for EFTPOS/Debit Cards, Credit Cards and EMV Cards.

Low Maintenance

The platform we chose is the NCR Easypoint 42 , which has a good balance of durability and performance with a lot of available addons. Our software monitors the addon hardware (a K23 Pinpad and an 80mm thermal printer) and alerts remote staff if any hardware is faulty or the paper is about to run out. We have our custom designed pinpad enclosure in powder coated steel which keeps the pinpad secure and fits in the standard Easymount mounting point. The system keeps a full audit trail and provides activity reports on an administrative console.
