Kiosk Payment Solutions: EFTPOS

The advent of small portable EFTPOS units that can be certified for standalone unattended use has opened the kiosk market.

There are now many transactional applications that were previously not possible on a kiosk which are now easy to create an ROI around.

The ability to take customers money on the kiosk makes selling goods and services relatively quick and simple. Most customers with an EFTPOS or Credit Card are now used to using them in semi-attended situations, much like a supermarket checkout. Options for taking cash and giving change are also available.

On a kiosk the customer is able to tender for a transaction just like any other EFTPOS terminal. There are a few differences in the types of transaction available on a kiosk. The ability to do a cash out transaction has been removed as well as refunds via the EFTPOS terminal and signature required for Credit Cards.

The addition of an EFTPOS unit has also added the possibility for other types of transactions such as loyalty based systems . These systems can be loaded on the EFTPOS terminal and the transactional data will then be sent to another host. This data can then be used in a loyalty system independently of the EFTPOS network.

Certified solutions allow customers to pay for kiosk services with debit and credit cards.

In New Zealand and Australia we partner with EFTPOS service providers to develop and certify payment enabled solutions for self-service kiosks. Development and testing time is shortened by using integrated EFTPOS solutions: already tested and certified PinPad and transaction engines.

We have solutions which integrate with the Provenco Syncro and Syncro Plus products as well as EFTPOSNZ’s PCEFTPOS. These products are constantly being updated and re-certified to keep in compliance with the banking regulations.

Recent changes to the New Zealand specification have introduced 3DES encryption and EMV for all new EFTPOS installations. This requires a three day certification test with one of the transaction switch providers (ETSL Paymark or EFTPOSNZ).

We have many choices for PinPads, however, we have a lot of experience with the Keycorp K23. This is a versatile and well priced unit that is fully compliant with the current specification. We have also designed and had approved a stainless steel mounting system for the K23.
