Content Management
When dealing with content management systems it is important to choose the right tool for the job.
One of the considerations in choosing a content management system is the skill set of the person updating the website. Another factor is the publishing cycle for the website, for example, whether there is an approval process for content and placement within the website. A third and important consideration is that the content management system is search-engine-friendly.
Umbraco CMS is a good option for both small and large sites. Umbraco is very customisable, easy to use, free and open source. Once we have developed the website it is very easy to update using a simple online interface, much like using a text editor. Pages are easy to optimise for SEO, and titles and other metatags are easy to edit.
Unlike many other content management systems, there are no restrictions to web design with Umbraco CMS. Umbraco uses CSS templates which are custom designed for your site. This is a content management system which is gaining in popularity worldwide and in New Zealand. Phosphor Essence have been developing websites with Umbraco for over three years.
For clients with little or no experience in web publishing but some experience with publishing in general Adobe Contribute is another option we support. This is an easy-to-use web-page editing tool. The user simply navigates to the page they want to make changes on and clicks the edit button. Changes are easy to make by selecting the words to be changed then typing over these words - just like a word processor. You can also add other content such as tables and images.
Once the page is complete you submit it, either to the website or to another person in your organisation for approval and publishing to the live site. In this way many of our clients are now self-sufficient when it comes to small and regular updates to their websites.
We also use other large customer specific content management systems when needed. These are usually tailored to the particular environment the client is using and have many people contributing to them across an organisation.
