Google Chrome browser has pulled ahead of Internet Explorer as the web browser with the most pageviews, according to Statcounter.

Statcounter shows Chrome as the leader both globally and in New Zealand. Net Applications, which measures browser usage in a different way, shows IE as still more popular globally.

The reason for this is that Statcounter measures pageviews, while Net Applications have a more complicated way of measuring unique users.

From Jan Vermuelen - 'The disparity between the two analytics companies is attributed to the different way in which they rank browsers: StatCounter measures market share based on raw pageviews, whereas Net Applications uses unique visitors weighted by the number of Internet users in a country.'
